I was listening to a sub-genre of Metal Music called Viking Metal, and thought it would be cool to do some Viking Stories. They would be more uplifting stories than the rest of my stories. At least I hope they will be.
Here is the first story of a man named Ulf.
A Man Named Ulf By P.C. Snider
There was once a man named Ulf. He was a strong fighter of wolves. He was the protector of his village against these creatures. He had a mighty axe, he called Wolf-Crusher.
Once he had fought against a whole pack of them. They were attacking a local family's tent.
He saved them. He on the other hand ended up with a lot of scratches, and teeth bites in his arms, and legs. But still the idea of him saving the family was well worth it. So he continued on, and on protecting the village. Until one day however he was overcome by depression, and fear.
He couldn’t fight the wolves anymore.
He realized no matter how many he killed, more and more kept coming. It was a never ending battle.
He sat by a fire alone on one cold winter’s night. He heard a wolf’s howl from a distance.
He sighed. He decided to keep cooking his dinner over the fireplace. He had not eaten in a few days, and was really hungry.
He managed to get some eggs, and other assorted meats, and potatoes. From a local
dealer.
He was grateful for the dinner tonight.
He heard a woman’s scream not too far from him. He sighed again.
Pay no attention. He thought to himself.
He wasn’t in the mood for fighting anymore, at least not tonight. His depression was
worse than ever. Not to mention he was unmarried, no kids of his own. Why bother saving other families? He thought to himself.
He heard the woman’s scream again.
All of a sudden, something came over Ulf. The urge to save her.
He kicked over his food out of the fireplace. Glanced over at his axe.
Finally he picks it up.
Time to save another one. He thought to himself.
As he reached the sound of the scream. Thankfully it wasn’t too late. However, the
woman had been cornered by five vicious wolves. She was dressed in an all black dress, and had long black hair, and brown eyes.
Ulf’s rage had returned. He screamed a loud growl, just like a Wolf, and charged into
battle. Swinging his axe like he had always done before.
At that moment, his depression and fear completely vanished.
After he had vanquished the five wolves. The woman was relieved.
Ulf, almost completely exhausted by the battle, says, “I did it! I saved you!”
The woman couldn’t believe it.
“Thank you! Thank you so much!”
“Not a problem, all in a day's work.” Ulf said with a grin.
“Would you like to accompany me by my fire tonight for some dinner?”
“Yes. I think I will.” She responded.
“Thank Valhalla.” He responded.
